The Command Officer Development Certificate Program (formerly called Police Supervision Certificate Program) is offered via a blended course of instructional delivery of face-to-face classroom instruction with on-line learning. Three courses, Accountability, Communication, and Leadership make up the Certificate program. Each course requires 36-hours of on-line learning plus attendance at three one-day classroom sessions, for a total of 60 instructional hours. Participants may complete one, two or all three courses. Successful completion of all three courses is required to receive the Command Officer Development Program Certificate.

Faculty for these three courses include Kim Lawrence and Jerome Boles. Kim is a retired Captain of the Lansing Police Department and currently Director of the Center for Police Executive Development. Jerry is a former Chief of Police with Lansing Police Department.

Because a 2009 302 grant from the State of Michigan pays half the registration fee, participants pay only a $350 registration fee (unless academic credit is sought) plus the cost of books. For registration and payment information click here. MCOLES certification is available to Michigan residents. Six Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits per course are available upon successful completion.

If you are a currently enrolled graduate or upper level graduate student at Michigan State University and will be enrolling for academic credit (3 credits per course), contact Sandi Cox for additional information. The applicable MSU tuition rate would replace the $350 non-credit cost per course.

If you are not a currently enrolled graduate/undergraduate student at Michigan State University and would like to receive information on obtaining Michigan State University Lifelong Education academic credits, visit the MSU RO: Lifelong Education webpage.
